Teaching
I am a tenured Associate Professor of Music Composition in the Natalie L. Haslam College of Music at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. I joined the faculty in 2014 and have served as coordinator for the Theory/Composition/Technology area since 2023. In my time at Tennessee, I have overseen the revamping of our composition program to include new offerings in contemporary practice as well the development of new introductory composition courses for majors, minors, and those who are simply interested in exploring composition. I also served as the president of the National Association of Composers, USA (NACUSA) for four years and was on the board of that organization for twelve years.
My music and scholarship have been presented in many venues across the country, and I’ve spoken to dozens of composition studios over the years. I have overseen many calls-for-scores and adjudicated composition competitions for composers from middle school through the graduate level. I’ve also worked in the commercial world, with projects for Microsoft, Google, T-Mobile, and Blue Cross among others.
I love sharing my experiences with others and helping composers reach their creative goals. I’m available for one-on-one sessions and workshops and I look forward to hearing from you!
